St. Ambrose Catholic School Updates
May 7, 2008
The Spring Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. All students will be performing, so check the costume directions below. This will be a wonderful evening to enjoy our talented children perform entertaining songs.
- Kindergarten-3rd grade: Church clothes (nice, dressy clothes)
- 4th-8th grade: The theme for these grades is songs from the 1950s. Everyone can wear jeans and a white t-shirt, or other 1950s-style outfits: for example, poodle skirts and bobby socks for the girls, sport coats and slicked back hair for the boys.
- 4th grade: May also wear Hawaiian shirts, leis, and Bermuda shorts (shorts must be to the knees) (no swim trunks!).
- 5th grade: May wear bathrobes over jeans and t-shirt, or fifties clothes as described above.
Students should arrive at 6:45 p.m., and go directly to their classrooms. Classrooms will not be open, and teachers will not be supervising students until 6:45.
May Crowning and Rosary next Wednesday, May 14 at 8:15 a.m. Parents, friends, and families are welcome to join us.
Titles of our Blessed Mother: Gate of Heaven / Tower of Ivory / Cause of our Joy / Queen of Families / Virgin Most Powerful Holy Mother of God / Morning Star
/ Mystical Rose / Mirror of Justice
Hot Dog lunch next Monday, May 12: The May, Swiger and Brown families are generously providing a hot dog lunch next Monday for all students. Your child(ren) will enjoy this delicious treat, and you will enjoy not packing lunch! (Please send a lunch for your child if he/she doesn't like hot dogs.) Thank you to the Mays, Swigers and Browns for being so good to all of us.
May and June calendars are on the web site at http://www.stambroseschool.org/calendars/May_2008_Calendar.pdf and http://www.stambroseschool.org/calendars/June_2008_Calendar.pdf. Be sure to print out copies for your family, so you don't miss any upcoming events during this busy time of year.
The main school doors will be locked after 4:00 p.m. If you are late picking up your student from an after school activity, he/she will be in Extended Day. For safety reasons, students cannot wait outside the school for parents to pick them up.
Baby Bottle Boomerang: Spare change, bills, and checks (made out to the Paul Stefan Foundation) are being collected by each class. The funds will help the Paul Stefan Home assist mothers with crisis pregnancies. Parents who would like to contribute may send a donation in with their student, and Mrs. Yates is giving classes that fill up their bottles a dress down day. Due by this Friday, May 9.
Track Coaches needed for next school year: Just a reminder of the need for volunteer track coaches for next year. There are two seasons, spring and fall. It is best to have practices right after school twice a week, usually for 5-6 weeks. 2-3 coaches would be best because many children participate in track.
Field Day volunteer meeting will be on Thursday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the gym. Mrs. Baxter will brief the volunteers on their assignments for the big day.
PLEASE let Mrs. Baxter know if your child will NOT be attending school on Field Day, May 23!! Teams are already formed and changes must be made now.
The PE department is looking for donations of used lacrosse sticks and nets. If you have some sitting in a closet or garage, Mrs. Baxter would be happy to put them to good use.
The Saints Among Us - St. Ambrose summer program for rising 5th -8th grade students will take place in the parish hall on June 16-20 (note change of dates), from 9:00 a.m. - noon each day. Look for a flyer coming home soon.
The United States Air Force Band Concert Band will be giving a free concert at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria on Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. The Ireton auditorium is an excellent venue, and these performances are always of the highest quality. Come and enjoy!
