Playing a band instrument is great fun for the children, but also teaches many lessons about hard work, dedication and persistence, creativity and working as a team. Parents are strongly encouraged to allow their children to take advantage of this chance to participate in a great music program. Last year, our school band made a lot of progress and put on some wonderful performances and I'm hoping for more of the same this year. The band program at St. Ambrose School is a part of The Garwood Whaley Music Program, which is the instrumental music program of the schools in the Diocese of Arlington. Instruction is given in the following instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, and percussion. Students will receive half-hour lessons each week during school. Band is scheduled at a different time each week, so that students can keep on track academically. For students who have progressed beyond the beginner level, after school band practice is from 3-4 pm on the weekly band day. The band program provides affordable instruction as well. Over the course of the school year, you will pay less than $10.00 per lesson (not including the cost of instrument rental) for quality instruction. Your child will also have the opportunity to play in two or three concerts during the year. Private instruction can be much more expensive and does not always include performance opportunities. The study of music is unlike any other academic endeavor. Studies have shown that children who study music can experience development in intelligence and increased success in school. The discipline of studying music leads to the development of lifetime skill that will benefit your child for the rest of his life. |
