April 2006 We are so blessed to have Mrs. Patty Cummins share her knowledge and creativity with the students at Saint Ambrose School. She teaches not only the rudiments of the Spanish language to the students, but also an appreciation for the culture and customs of the different countries. A focus of her lessons is helping the children learn prayers in Spanish. Mrs. Cummins is the oldest of five children. She attended Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school, and then went on to pursue her studies at Boston College. Here she majored in French and Spanish. She had the wonderful opportunity to live in Spain while participating in a study abroad program. She claims that this is when she was bit by the "travel bug." Her love for learning about other countries is something she has been able to pursue through her many travels. As a military wife, she has lived in Germany, England, South Korea, as well as many states in the United States. Her five children have also benefited from the experience of living abroad, exploring the country, learning about the culture, and, most importantly, making many friends. In her free time, that is when she is not preparing lessons, teaching, or taking care of family, she enjoys reading, cooking, listening to classical music, and sewing. She especially enjoys playing board games with her family. This busy, talented teacher also is the chairperson of the Curriculum Committee for the Design for Excellence, heads the social committee, is the Spanish Coordinator to the Diocese, and even found time to have lunch with President Bush! We say "muchas gracias, Senora Cummins," for all you do for the Saint Ambrose School Community. |
